Frequently Asked Questions

What is Platelet- Rich Plasma Therapy?

Your blood is made up of plasma, white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. The two important elements of PRP are platelets and plasma. Plasma is the liquid portion of blood while platelets play an important role in healing through the promotion of cell growth and regeneration.

How do Platelet- Rich Plasma Injections Work?

PRP is a non-surgical option.  Platelet-rich plasma is created by taking a blood sample for the arm and placing it into a device called a centrifuge that separates the other components of the blood from the platelets and concentrates them within the plasma. Essentially, Platelet-rich plasma is the blood that contains more platelets than normal. After creating the platelet-rich plasma, the solution is then injected into the target area.  The purpose is to increase the concentration of specific growth factors in a specific area to accelerate the healing process.
